Quito, Ecuador
Casa Gangotena Hotel
Originally dating from the 18th century, Casa Gangotena was rebuilt in the 1920s following a fire and therefore has a distinctly Art Deco feel. An aristocratic and elegant place that feels intimate and personal, it is the ideal base for exploring Quito.

Location
Casa Gangotena couldn’t be more perfectly located for experiencing the array of sights in central Quito. It is situated on Plaza San Francisco, close to several museums and notable churches. The hotel’s broad third floor terrace has an excellent view of Iglesia de San Francisco and of everyday life in Quito.
Accommodation
The hotel has 31 spacious and individual rooms across three floors, some looking into the hotels’ internal courtyard and others looking outward to the church of La Compania. If you want a particularly special stay, we would recommend you opt for the junior suite, with its balcony overlooking the garden. Rooms boast thick carpets, floor-to-ceiling windows, and luxurious gilded curtains, as well as antique and art-deco furniture.
In addition to the superb terrace with excellent views over the city’s churches, other communal areas are characterised by grand elegance. The garden and inner patio are oases of calm amongst lush vegetation, and the hotel’s wood-panelled bar has the air of a country club in which you can sink into a deep and comfortable leather chair. You will love savouring the tastes of Ecuador’s past, present and future in the hotel’s restaurant, and if you want a VIP experience you can book the private salon, once the ballroom of the Gangotena family.
One unmissable daily event is Casa Gangontena’s “Café Quiteño”, their sumptuous version of high tea served either in the restaurant or on the covered patio.
Experiences
Quito was the first city in the world to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, so it is easy to appreciate that there is a huge amount to see on the doorstep of Casa Gangotena.
- We recommend visiting Calle de la Ronda, the city’s cultural heart. Galleries, inviting restaurants, cosy bars and lovely boutiques are tucked into ancient Spanish-style buildings.
- You can take part in Quito Experiences, a programme of evening cultural activities, specially designed so you can soak up the unique traditions of the city without having to stray far from the hotel. Indulge in chocolate tasting; take part in an Andean cleansing ritual; or join an exclusive tour of the iconic Church and Convent of San Francisco, led by a Franciscan monk.
