Location
Casa Higueras lies in the heart of Cerro Alegre (Happy Hill), a delightful quarter of Valparaíso which has been granted UNESCO World Heritage status. In the 1920s, English and German immigrants built spectacular mansions and gardens here; Casa Higueras recalls the elegance and grandeur of this dynamic period of Chilean history.
Accommodation
The hotel combines modern comfort with the warmth of the past; dark wood furniture, topical plants and stylish artworks abound. This stately mansion has five floors and 20 guest rooms, each designed with impeccable tast. They have high ceilings, exposed beams, and large windows. Some have French windows opening onto balconies. Set amongst cascading terraced gardens, there is an infinity pool with gorgeous views over the bay, a sun deck, and a well-equipped spa.
The hotel’s Maralegre restaurant is superb, with some of the most sought-after tables in the city, on account of its rooftop terrace and views. The restaurant offers a contemporary menu with an emphasis on seafood, this being the speciality of the Valparaíso region. An excellent selection of wines is available. You will love the traditional Chilean breakfast, which will set you up for the day of exploring this delightful city.

- Wander the meandering alleys and steep stairs of the surrounding neighbourhood, revelling in the bohemian vibe. If you follow signs of the Museum of the Open Sky, you will encounter 20 murals painted by some of Chile’s top artists.
- Discover the fascinating naval traditions of Valparaiso by visiting the Naval and Maritime Museum and the Lord Cochrane Museum of the Sea. Another historic location is La Sebastiana, a home built by the poet Pablo Neruda.
- You will never be disappointed by a visit to any bar in Valparaiso. The eclectic mix of artists, writers, university students and sailors makes for an interesting evening!
- Further afield, perhaps have a day on the beach at Viña del Mar, or travel the Casablanca Valley wine route.
