Location
Located just on the outskirts of the small village of Yanque, about 3 hours from Arequipa, you will find yourself at an altitude of 3250m (10,699ft). The Colca Lodge Spa takes its name from the River Colca, which lies right beside the hotel.
Accommodation
There are 45 guest rooms at the lodge, all of which overlook the gardens and valley. The lodge is committed to environmental sustainability, so the heating is a geothermal system. Building materials are local and natural too: many of the walls are adobe, and the roofs are thatched.
The decor inside is fresh and simple, complementing the polished wooden floors and occasional flashes of bright green and yellow in the art work and flower arrangements.

Each of the four pools has a different temperature, so you can bathe outside, relaxing completely while taking in the scenery and wildlife all around. As the pools are open 24 hours a day, why not take an evening soak and enjoy the star-lit sky?
In the two dining areas of the restaurant, you will be treated to a wide range of international and Peruvian dishes whilst you enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding valley and mountains. All communal areas are notable for their comfort and charm; sink into a sofa by one of the fireplaces and just relax.
Colca Lodge has its own herd of alpacas and llamas, which are treasured pets but also a research group from the Padomarca Experimental Centre for Genetic Improvement. Helping to groom and feed them, you’ll be doing your bit for science!

Experiences
- Cross the river on a wooden bridge to visit the alpaca farm and interpretation centre. Learn about the history of alpaca wool production in Peru.
- Another nearby interpretation centre is dedicated to Condors and the other birdlife found in the Colca Valley.
- Take a hike to the Uyo Uyo pre-Inca ruins not far from the hotel.
- For the acclimatised and fit traveller, a longer hike around the Colca Canyon will take you to altitudes of 15,750 feet (4,800m), which is almost as high as Mt Blanc.
- Horse riding, cycling and fishing are easily arranged at the hotel. You can even have a go at ziplining.
