Location
El Remanso is a rainforest lodge in southwestern Costa Rica, on the remote and stunning Osa Peninsula. Set in 185 acres of private reserve about 40 minutes from Puerto Jimenez, it’s a small property whose staff pride themselves on delivering a highly personalised and authentic service.
Accommodation
You won’t have to leave the lodge to experience the wonders of the Osa Peninsula’s ecosystems; monkeys will swing past your terrace and macaws will squawk in the nearby trees. The occasional armadillo may wander by. In one of 12 rooms and cabins, you will hear the sounds of the forest because there are no walls; only curtains which open out onto the rainforest beyond. With bamboo furnishings and a cosy intimate vibe, you will feel as if you are staying in a treehouse, high up in the jungle canopy

In fact, El Remanso is proud to be one of the first hotels in Costa Rica to generate all its own electricity from a micro-hydro system. There is also a strong commitment to many local community projects, and the lodge is a beacon of stable employment.
Dining at El Remanso Lodge is an experience thanks to its elevated, shady but open position amongst the treetops and the breeze. Passing macaws, monkeys and toucans will add an extra thrill to the quality of the food, the ingredients for which are locally, organically and sustainably sourced.

Experiences
- Whilst you may indulge in spa treatments at the Mele Wellness centre, you are more likely to want to get out into the wilds of the Oso Peninsula. Guided nature hikes start in the immediate 70 hectares of rainforest that surround the lodge, but options venturing further afield are facilitated too.
- Take a trip out to watch dolphins, whales, whale sharks and sea turtles in the Golfo Dulce. It’s a chance also to go snorkelling and swimming. .
- The nearby Cabo Matalpo is one of Costa Rica’s best surfing beaches. The experienced instructors will give lessons to guests of all abilities.
- Kayak in the tranquil waters of the Golfe Dulce mangrove forests. You may have a close encounter with a dolphin.
- Horse riding at El Remanso is a memorable experience because where else can you ride down the middle of a river to a magnificent beach?
The lodge’s elevated suspension bridges give you a chance to walk through the rainforest canopy, and maybe indulge in some zip wiring. .
