Location
The Explora Rapa Nui Hotel is situated 8 km from the town of Hanga Roa on a hillside facing the Pacific Ocean, more than 2,000 miles from the closest part of the South American continent. The hotel is beautifully designed to reach out to nature in a sympathetic and futuristic way; its buildings span a great expanse of space in single-storey rounded structures. You will find this place incredibly tranquil, and the award-winning architecture seamlessly blends aspects of the island’s indigenous heritage with the natural shapes and materials of Easter Island.
Accommodation
Each of the 30 rooms (26 Varua Rooms and 4 Raa Suites) has been carefully designed to ensure your silence, privacy, and space. There are no televisions or WiFi, allowing you to switch off completely and connect more deeply to your surroundings. An entire wall of each room is made of glass; you will find that gazing out at the wilderness and then to the sea is an incomparable form of entertainment.
After a day of exploring Easter Island, you can unwind in the hotel pool or enjoy a massage at the spa. The restaurant serves superb food and an equally impressive selection of Chilean wines. The bar is a relaxed and friendly spot with more wonderful views to enjoy as you sip on cocktails.
The development gained a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) award for its extensive use of recycled wood and its airflow system that eliminates the need for air conditioning.

- Visit the world-famous Easter Island moai, ceremonial platforms and quarries on half-day or full-day excursions.
- Climb to the edge of the extinct volcano Rano Kau, which affords spectacular views over its crater lake, across the whole island, and also out over the Pacific.
- Snorkel in the brilliantly clear waters near Hango Roa’s cove, including the Rano Kau crater and Motus, the islets famous for the Birdman competition.
- Discover the island on one of the numerous bike excursions, either self-guid ed or with a host.
- Take your time and get a more personal feel for the landscape and mysterious archaeological sites by hiking. The hotel offers a number of options, and provides minibus transport if required.
