The Hoanib Valley Camp is deep in northwestern Namibia, surrounded by extensive desert, looming sand dunes, and towering mountains. Staying here, you will want to visit the Giraffe Conservation Foundation’s field-base. You can also track black rhino and see desert lion, elephant, zebra and springbok. Birders should keep an eye out for Monteiro’s hornbill and Vereaux’s eagle.

You will stay in one of six beautifully appointed tents, the colours and textures of which have been inspired by Hoanib’s desert landscape and by the patterns of the giraffe walking through it. You can roll up the sides of the tent to look directly out at the desert - we really can think of no better way to wake up.

All the materials at Hoanib Valley Camp have been sourced locally. Rundu carpenters have made the furniture, and the baskets and other decorative items have been handwoven by a community group in Windhoek. Everything is solar powered so as to keep the camp’s carbon footprint to a minimum.
The landscape and wildlife are the real draws in this part of Namibia. Temporary Himba settlements dot the land, and you can meet some of the local Herero people when you pay a visit to their village.

Take time to learn about the groundbreaking giraffe research that is being undertaken by the Giraffe Conservation Foundation: it has huge ramifications for the future of this species. Other attractions at Hoanib Valley Camp include the game drives to see desert adapted elephant, oryx, and lion, guided nature walks, and unforgettable close up encounters whilst rhino tracking.
