Location
Start counting the elephant in Nyerere National Park, and you’ll quickly lose track of the number. The current best guess is that there are 110,000 of these incredible herbivorous pachyderms here, and the population, thankfully, is stable. The elephant share their peaceful homeland with rhino and hippo, gnu, eland, kudu, and hartebeest, as well as the largest population of buffalo in Africa.
A walking safari is a must. You’ll explore on foot in a small group, appreciating the landscape and its creatures far more than if you simply drive by. The only way you will feel more at one with the wilderness is to try an overnight camping excursion, sleeping under a mosquito net in the bush.
Nyerere is criss-crossed with water channels and you’ll gain a completely different perspective on the reserve if you take to the water on a boat safari. This is the best way to see the hippo and crocodile up close, not to mention spotting the birds. Many of the larger animals come to the water’s edge to drink and they seem completely unconcerned at the silent presence of a boat nearby.

Intimate Family Accommodation
Comprising just four suites, Kiba Point is intimate, while giving larger family groups their own space to unwind.
One of the suites is complete with a children’s annex, so that you can keep your youngsters close. You’ll fall asleep and wake to the rhythm of nature, with no barrier between you and the wilderness beyond your veranda.
Vast, king-sized beds form the centrepiece of your room, with natural wood décor throughout that keeps with the natural setting outside.

Thriving Wildlife In A Vast Reserve
Activities are completely your own and you’ll have ample choices to fill your days. The game drives are tailored by age with encyclopaedic guides who will passionately show you the timeworn paths of elephant and zebra, while also pointing out the area’s many bird species.
Should you choose to, you can enjoy a pitstop to the natural hot springs before lunch on the river bank, watching as crocs sunbathe on the opposite shore.
Walking safaris are another excellent way to discover the bush up close, with your guides slipping you through the growth to secret waterholes filled with huge hippo pods.

Conservation
Many communities have strained relationships with neighbouring wildlife. Kiba Point’s parent company, Nomad help to run campaigns aimed at changing minds and encouraging local ambassadors and young leaders to stand up for their wildlife, environment and national heritage.
Environment
Nomad sponsor eco-clubs throughout Tanzania giving students a practical exposure to environmental issues. The trips are also a wonderful platform for students to learn about their surrounding environment, inspiring them to learn more and take action in their own homes.
Community
Nomad partners with The Hope Centre (Mugumu Village): A community focused project offering a refuge for young girls fleeing from female genital mutilation. Most of the girls only stay for a month or so, while the Hope Centre team works to reunite them with their parents. There are primary and secondary school aged girls, and others who are older and learning vocational skills in the centre.
