Kyaninga Lodge

Kyaninga Lodge is in a spectacular location, hugging an extinct volcano crater at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains, and surrounded by virgin forests. Lake Kyaninga, a seemingly bottomless expanse set in the crater of an extinct volcano, is just steps from Kyaninga Lodge - the views of the lush forests and grass-coated Rwenzori Mountains are unrivaled in this part of Africa. The best way to describe Kyaninga is romantic seclusion with a wild side.

The lodge’s nine hand-carved log cottages with thatched roofs, each decorated in tune with the local surroundings, are a haven of luxury in the most natural of locations. They are connected with a raised wooden footbridge to the main lodge, where tasty three-course meals using the lodge’s own ingredients are served against the backdrop of a roaring fire.
If you tire of admiring the landscaped gardens of Kyaninga, playing on the lawn tennis court, or swimming in one of Uganda’s safe lakes in the volcanic crater, you should experience a chimpanzee safari through the wild Kibale National Park. Deep within the dense forest, you will come face-to-face with man’s closest relatives, chimpanzee along with 13 other rare primates. You should also not forget the nearby Queen Elizabeth National Park, complete with elephant, lions, leopard, and hippo - to name just a few!

Conservation
Conservation
Kyaninga Forest Foundation (KFF) was set-up in 2010 initially to help local communities living near Lake Kyaninga and the surrounding Kyaninga Forest find ways to deal with the ever-increasing demand for natural resources such as firewood. Through this community-based work the urgent need for a wider intervention was identified and KFF attained NGO status in 2017 to address these issues. They allow local communities to understand how they plant trees to maximise their land boundaries and improve crop growth.

Environment
Environment
The Kyaninga Lodge uses water in a responsible way through rain water harvesting for the adjacent dairy farm, grey water reuse for watering trees and filling up the swimming pool with water from the lake. The consumption of water which is used by the lodge in one year is equivalent to one heavy rainfall. The lodge runs on nearly 100% solar power and has an on-request towel and linen change policy to further save water and energy. Waste is separated and recycled and organic waste is composted on the grounds. The staff comes from the surrounding villages and ingredients and supplies are sourced as freshly as possible from the local markets while herbs and salad are grown on their own premises.
Community
Community
The team at Kyaninga Lodge are keen to support the Kyaninga Child Development Centre. Based in Fort Portal, KCDC was established to provide much needed high quality, specialised and affordable assessment, treatment, education and support to children with disabilities, and their families and carers, to enable them to lead more independent lives. In addition to this and other community projects, the staff all come from the surrounding villages and ingredients and supplies are sourced as freshly as possible from the local markets.
