Lewa House

Lewa House is more than simply a place to rest your head after your safaris. It’s the intangible warmth of being welcomed as family by owners Calum and Sophie McFarlane with the touches of home that make it a unique experience. Mount Kenya Lewa House
Location
The safe haven of the conservancy allows bountiful wildlife to flourish. This is ‘big five’ territory and aside from rhino and elephant you can see ostrich, giraffe, cheetah and Grevy’s zebra – just to name a few species.

Lewa’s undulating landscape is a feast for the eyes and a wonderful place to experience the best of Kenya’s wilderness. Open vehicle game drives are a must, and there’s nothing quite like a horseback safari to feel connected to nature. Or, take a scenic flight to experience Lewa from above.

Superb lodges and camps are peppered throughout Lewa, ensuring a private, upscale safari experience whilst gleaning insights into the work of a modern wildlife conservancy. Learn from anti-poaching professionals how their efforts protect rhino and benefit local communities.

Owner-Run Kenyan Hospitality
Three charming family cottages sprawl across the hillside, crafted from materials of the original house. You’ll have two bedrooms and bathrooms complete with rustic hardwood furniture, swathed in natural-hued linen.

Meals are the heart of Lewa House. Join the chefs in the herb garden, picking fresh ingredients before joining the McFarlane’s for a family-style meal. Sophie will regale you with stories of her time growing up, as the sun sets in a fiery display.

Safari Adventures For All Ages
You’ll depart into the conservancy in open-sided safari jeeps, perfect for photographing the Big Five, cheetah, wild dog, and other rare animals that reside here.

For an exciting and unforgettable vantage point, why not take to the skies in the helicopter for a bird’s eye view?

Horseback and camel safaris offer options for even the youngest riders to join the zebra herds that grace the plains, allowing you to experience wildlife in the closest possible way.

See the Benefits of Conservation
We love the educational value of a family safari. What better way to teach your children about conservation than by visiting the Lewa Conservancy headquarters?

Join anti-poaching rangers and their bloodhounds, using radio transmitters to find endangered species. Or explore the canopies of Ngare Ndare Forest, before enjoying a refreshing swim under a waterfall.

Here the rangers teach you about the medicinal value of plants, the vibrant bird life and even the elephants that visit the forest.

Conservation
Conservation
Conservancy and tourism fees paid by every guest that stays at Lewa directly contributes to the operating costs of the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Total tourism fees typically contribute over 20% of the total raised by the Conservancy, while visitors on safari also make up a significant proportion of the donations to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.

Lewa House helps support the conservancy to invest extensively in the local community through several innovative programmes, ranging from micro-credit schemes to medical clinics and schools.
