Location
Whilst Mama Cuchara is not as central as some other hotels, the extra few minutes of walking to the sites is worth it to be in the quiet and classy neighbourhood of La Loma Grande. With a position opposite the Cultural Centre, you will benefit from a doorstep opportunity to hear musicians rehearse and perform. The other main sites are about a mile to the north.
Accommodation
This Colonial-era hotel is, without question, an art-lovers paradise. The artworks that dot the hotel are inspiring and – moreover – mostly for sale. There is every chance that you will leave the hotel having purchased some jewellery, a painting or something ceramic as a souvenir of Quito.
With just 26 rooms, this is a comfortably scaled hotel where you will get individual attention and the highest of service from the dedicated staff. The rooms themselves are individual curations of hand-made pieces of furniture and Ecuadorian art and artefacts.

If you opt for one of the more superior rooms in the newer wing, you will find that it is more contemporary in style. We would recommend one of the three luxury rooms with a living room and a balcony.
The main dining area is the La Plaza restaurant, housed in the main courtyard under a vaulted glass ceiling. The chef makes a great effort to produce daily specialities from the different regions of Ecuador. For the best of cocktail experiences, head to the excellent rooftop bar which offers spectacular views across Quito; even better if you climb the glass dome!
