The seeming inaccessibility of this part of Damaraland has made Mowani Mountain Camp a sanctuary, just as nature intended. The asperous landscape is a magnificent backdrop to the camp’s thatched cottages, and the desert-adapted wildlife remains completely undisturbed as its environmental footprint is so light.
Twyfelfontein was Namibia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it’s only a short distance away from Mowani Mountain Camp. The animals depicted in its prehistoric paintings - elephant, springbok and jackal - still roam the local area and frequently wander into camp.

Guests are accommodated in 12 beautifully decorated twin bedded en-suite tents with eco-friendly solar lighting and furnishings designed especially for comfort and convenience. The luxury tents are a great source of relaxation. Comfortably secluded in your own private hide-away, you will be pampered by crisp white linen, en-suite bathrooms, and of course your own wooden deck offering an open view of the wonderful Damara landscape.
There are also two suites and each tent is sited to take in the wonderful panorama. There is a good sized pool and lounge area where you can relax in between activities and sundowners are enjoyed from the top of the mountain where the camp has its own small bar and guests can take in panoramic views across the adjacent mountains and plains.

The Mowani team takes sustainability very seriously, which is vital in this delicate desert environment. The design of the buildings is conducive to natural cooling, indigenous plants have been planted around the site and the chef grows many of the vegetables and herbs he needs for meals in the kitchen garden.
The watering hole has been expanded to accommodate larger elephant herds: you’ll see up to 18 elephant at a time when they stop by the lodge for a refreshing, mid afternoon drink or dip.

Conservation
As well as supporting the desert lion project, Mowani has also invested in the expansion of a nearby waterhole to ensure local wildlife, including a herd of 18 elephants are able to access water all year round in an otherwise harsh environment.
Comnmunity
Mowani invests in local people through providing training and vital job opportunities in a region short of opportunity outside of conventional farming.
Environment
To preserve the natural environment, Mowani has planted indigenous plants which are harvested and replanted around the lodge. The camp ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ all refuse and use energy saving bulbs as well as solar geysers to reduce its carbon footprint.
