Galapagos Islands
Ocean Spray
We love the fact that Ocean Spray is unashamedly nautical in its styling; it’s a no-nonsense boat designed to help you see the wonders of the Galapagos Islands. That isn’t to say that you will compromise on comfort, particularly as its catamaran design inherently makes the cabins and communal areas spacious and well-proportioned.

Location
With a length of about 35m and a draft of just over a metre, Ocean Spray is a catamaran that tours the fantastic archipelago of the Galapagos on a number of routes from 4 to 8 days. Most of its adventures start from either the island of Santa Cruz or from San Cristobal; your route will take you to a variety of islands, each with its own climate, topography and habitats. With such a diverse sample of locations, you will appreciate how this cradle of evolution inspired Charles Darwin.
Accommodation
Ocean Spray accommodates a maximum of 16 guests in 8 double staterooms, with a single room available for any party with an odd number. All the rooms have private balconies where you can sit, sipping a cold drink, and gaze out over the water.
With the rounded raised doors, you will be reminded that you are aboard a boat despite its stability, which is a nautical touch that we like. The large window of your cabin complements the crisp, clean décor and invites you to look outwards and be ready for exploration.

There is an excellent lounge space with large view windows and ample deck space for relaxing in the sun, for alfresco dining and for viewing the wildlife of the sea. Teak decking and flooring in the communal areas give a classy feel. A great feature is the outdoor jacuzzi; its elevated position invites you to indulge yourself whilst scanning the horizon for dolphins and whales.
As for dining, breakfast and lunch are alfresco buffet affairs, while dinner is a more formal indoor occasion. Having indulged in the excellent dishes, which fuse local and international cuisine, you will probably gather in the very ample lounge for a briefing or lecture by the vessel’s naturalist. With your interest stimulated, you may well choose to spend the rest of the evening sampling the book selection.

Experiences
- The vessel has laptops for you to borrow so that you can research your destinations and also stay in touch with friends.
- With four double kayaks and two paddleboards, there are more than enough paddling vessels to go around the guests. You won’t regret getting down to water level to explore and experience the marine wildlife. With luck, you may get close to a sea lion, a penguin or a marine iguana.
- Snorkelling gear is freely available, as are wet suits to cope with the chilly Galapagos waters.
- Shore excursions with an authoritative naturalist will give you a magnificent experience of the natural history of each island you visit. Ask them anything you want about rocks, the sea, reptiles, birds, the weather, stars; they’ll probably know the answer.
- We suggest that you get to know the variety of Galapagos finches and the tortoises with different neck lengths. They’re the things that got Charles Darwin pondering about evolution.
