Location
Roho Ya Selous sits perched atop a hill in the heart of the reserve, overlooking a wending tributary of the Rufiji River. It’s a magical location which invites and inspires adventure. Leopards lounge in the shade of the fig trees, the night air is alive with the calls of nocturnal creatures, and one of Africa’s most significant wild dog populations makes its dens nearby.
Accommodation
The camp has just eight tented suites, one of which is set up for families to share. From the outside the tents look simple enough, delicately blending in with their surroundings, but you certainly don’t have to sacrifice comfort: an over the bed cooling system will keep you cool through the night, there’s an en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, and the electricity is proudly solar powered.
You can swim in the pool to escape from the midday heat, relax in the breeze on the multiple wooden decks, then join fellow guests in the open sided mess tent for evening drinks and dinner accompanied by the nocturnal soundtrack of the bush.
The Selous is renowned for the diversity of activities on offer, spend your days alternating between them you will experience the bush, and the animals which live here in so many magical ways.

Experiences
An early morning bush walk, accompanied by an armed ranger, will allow you to immerse yourself in the Selous’ rugged natural environment and to appreciate the small details.- Taking to the water by boat, you can pass close to pods of hippo and crocodile along the bank, and there are also some fine spots for fishing.
- Game drives are a must, it’s during these excursions that you are most likely to encounter the big predators. The vehicles are open sided and have tiered seating, so you’re guaranteed an uninterrupted view.
- The whole family can join the adventure with a dedicated family tent and no age limits on game drives and boat safaris (there is a minimum of 16 years on walking tours) There is even the option of hiring a private vehicle for a family safari.

Conservation
In 2019, Asilia (Roho’s parent company) launched a project to learn more about the Usangu Wetlands region of Ruaha National Park. The research seeks to determine how the area could be sustainably developed to promote investment for safari tourism, while also assessing needs in terms of infrastructural and conservation upgrades.
Environment
Asilia have dedicated themselves to “responsible tourism” in all their camps throughout Africa. Their CO2 offset project has protected 17.4 hectares of dryland forest, greatly thankful to the fact that 90% of electricity in their camps is from renewable sources.
Community
In response to the human-wildlife conflicts that exist all throughout eastern Africa, Asilia has launched the Twende Porini programme which involves inviting children from local communities and villages to stay in Asilia camps for a few days and take part in wildlife education and game drives.
