Rwanda

In western Rwanda the Virunga Mountain are one of the best homelands of the mountain Gorilla. Trekking up through the montane forest, you will never forget your first encounter with the greatest of great apes.

Highlight:
Gorilla Trekking

There are just two places left in the world where you can still see mountain gorilla. Tracking permits are issued in strictly limited numbers, but they fund vital conservation work. Hiking through the dense jungle is a thrill in itself, but nothing can prepare you for that first gorilla encounter.

Highlight:
Primate Conservation

The endangered mountain gorilla in the Volcanoes National Park are the poster animal for primates in Rwanda. The country’s primate population is far more diverse than this, however, and you can see plenty of equally interesting chimpanzee, baboon, and monkey, too.
