The pre-Cambrian granite boulders which stick out in jagged kopjes throughout Uganda’s Lake Mburo National Park are more than 500 million years old. The environment may be fragile, but you get a sense that it will draw upon the strength of these millennia to survive.
In spite its small size, Lake Mburo offers more activities than almost any other park in Uganda. You can mountain bike through the Mburo wilds, following the sandy tracks with a guide. The zebra and warthog seem completely unfazed by bikes, so you can get very close to them indeed.
Riding through the park on horseback gives you an elevated view of the landscape, and you can cover significant ground without tiring. The zebra will approach you out of curiosity. We recommend a half day ride, with a picnic in a scenic spot, where you’ll dine in the company of your steeds and plains game beyond.
Anglers will want to try their hand at casting out on the glassy surface of Lake Mburo, where tilapia is the ultimate sport fish. A privately guided walk through the park is a superb way to explore and see the rich birdlife up close.
