Gaya Island

Enjoy a tropical retreat in the heart of a marine reserve

To re-engage the senses after trekking through the rainforests of Borneo’s main island, we will arrange a private motor boat to take you to the pristine Gaya Island from Kota Kinabalu. Once there you will unwind in what is the true image of a tropical paradise – walk along powder fine beaches as you feel the gentle caress of turquoise waves gently wash around your feet.

To accommodate your idyllic stay, we recommend Gaya Island Resort, which provides a number of exciting activities for you to make the most of your island retreat. Cast your gaze upwards in search of proboscis monkeys as you canoe amongst a maze of mangrove trees or visit the resident marine biologist to learn about the resort’s sea turtle and coral conservation efforts.

If you fancy navigating beyond the sand bar, put your fishing skills to the test in search of species such as wahoo, dorado and barracuda on a deep sea charter excursion. If you’d prefer to dive beneath the surface, take scuba lessons in The Coral Triangle where you’ll discover a vibrant, underwater dreamscape. This is known as the world’s marine epicenter and is home to more than 75% of known ocean species.
