Why the Amazon?
Yasuni National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, setting records not only for its concentration of plant life, but also for its amphibians, birds and mammals as well. Some 600 species of birds have been recorded here, including one-third of all those native to the Amazon. You can see rare birds like the lesser wagtail tyrant, the fuscous flycatcher and the white-bellied spinetail, just to name a few.
Throughout the Ecuadorian Amazon there are many indigenous tribes – some of which welcome visitors to teach their environmental wisdom and ways of life. It’s an especially remarkable experience to trek through the Amazon with a guide from the Achuar tribe, a community of approximately 6,000 who can teach you tracking skills and share ancient knowledge of the rainforest.
