Isabela’s main town is a small port village, with sandy streets, a few locally-run restaurants, and a wonderful laid-back vibe. Explore the island in the day and in the evening, chill out by relaxing in a hammock, with a cocktail at one of the beach bars, and watch the sun go down.
Isabela is home to some stunning beaches; soak up some sun, take an afternoon nap in the shade of a palm tree, or play an energetic game of beach volleyball.
Las Tintoreras Islet, just off the coast of Isabela, is part of the Galapagos National Park. It is an area teeming with wildlife. Walk along the beach or take a boat trip to see Galapagos penguin, blue-footed booby, marine iguana, and sea lion, or plunge into the water and snorkel with sea turtle, white tip shark, and fish galore.
There are great walking trails on Isabela; the 8 km trail up to the caldera will take you to a strange moon-like landscape where giant tortoise roam. See them up close and learn more about them at the Tortoise Breeding Centre.
