North Seymour Island
Why North Seymour Island?
North Seymour Island is a small, uninhabited island but home to one of the biggest colonies of seabirds in the Galapagos; this is the reason ornithologists and travellers visit. Discover seabird colonies and witness up close their most intimate courtship, breeding, and nesting behaviours.
On North Seymour Island, meander along a picturesque nature trail with a ranger, and prepare to be amazed by large colonies of nesting booby and frigate bird. Depending on the time of year, this is an excellent spot to observe the thrilling mating rituals of the booby or marvel at the fascinating dynamics between a mother frigate bird and her chick. To see a frigatebird divebomb the booby to force them to drop their prey, and then swoop down to retrieve the catch before it hits the water, is an experience not to be missed.
Seymour is also home to the ubiquitous giant sea turtle and large groups of colourful iguana, which are found in the rocky landscape. Sea lion laze about in the sunshine, while pelican and swallow-tailed gull swoop above your head.
