Our ViewAn eco-haven hidden in the north west of Namibia, Hoanib Valley Camp is a luxury safari camp for the discerning traveller. With just six suites and a vast, private wilderness at your doorstep this is exclusivity at its finest. Spend days searching for desert-adapted wildlife before relaxing in the sumptuous comfort of camp.
LocationDeep in Kaokoland in western Namibia, you will find Hoanib Valley Camp. It is surrounded by towering mountains and sand dunes; the landscape here seems quite otherworldly, perhaps something from a Star Wars set. But though the environment is remote and undeniably wild, we think it is one of the most interesting parts of Namibia. It is an extraordinary place to learn about the fascinating characteristics and habits of desert adapted wildlife, and also to meet the nomadic Himba people who have occupied this territory for at least six millennia.
AccommodationHoanib Valley Camp is a joint venture between Natural Selection, local communities, and the Giraffe Conservation Foundation. It’s an elegant space with six carefully designed tented suites which blend seamlessly with their desert environment. The interior designers have taken their inspiration from the Himba culture, and this is reflected in the colour scheme, patterns, and textiles.
The furniture has been handcarved by Rundu carpenters, and the baskets woven by members of the Omba Arts Trust in Windhoek. The architects have taken great care to ensure the camp has a minimal environmental footprint. Each tent sits upon a platform made of bamboo and recycled composites, and the electricity is entirely solar powered.
The landscape and wildlife are the real draws in this part of Namibia. Temporary Himba settlements dot the land, and you can meet some of the local Herero people when you visit their village.
