Huab Under Canvas

Damaraland, Namibia

Waking up at Huab Under Canvas, you’ll watch the sun climb over the rocky escarpment to illuminate the grove where the camp is nestled along the Huab River. You’re sure to feel the comfort of isolation for which Namibia is renowned here; between April and November, you’ll fly in and stay as part of a privately guided safari. Booked only on an exclusive use basis, your only company will be those in your group, the staff and the rhino, jackal, elephant and leopard of the area.

With conservation at its core, Huab Under Canvas carries one of the lowest environmental footprints of any Namibian camp, ensuring its pristine environment is left intact. The spacious safari tents are raised on platforms and include a separate bathroom with hot bucket showers and flush toilets. To witness the stellar starscapes of a Namibian night, you can choose to sleep out under the sky.

With the highest tracking success rate in north-west Namibia, you’ll stand a fantastic chance of spotting black rhino on your privately guided excursions. The camp has its own two Rhino Rangers who protect the vital population, ensuring the safety of the animals.

With nobody else in camp, the time, length and aim of your activities are completely up to you. Nature walks along Huab River will have you encountering desert adapted elephant, hyena, jackal and wild cat. You will also have the chance to hike to visit prehistoric rock engravings or soak in a natural hot spring. If you fancy an even more wild experience, multi-day walking safaris can be arranged.
