Lapa Rios

Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica

Fall asleep to the sounds of the rainforest and wake up to the eerie howler monkeys. Costa Rican coffee. These two experiences epitomise a stay at Lapa Rios. The reed-thatched bungalows are open-air lodges, nestled in the rainforest canopy, with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the Golfo Dulce. The bungalows feature outdoor waterfall showers and a spacious deck with hammock.

Take a short hike up to the main lodge for breakfast and enjoy a dip in the saltwater infinity pool. Then climb up to the canopy rooftop and gaze out over the rainforest; the sunrise and sunset views are especially beautiful. The main lodge also has a private massage hut and a yoga deck. The open-air Brisa Azul restaurant serves gourmet food made from choice local ingredients.

Lapa Rios organises guided tours through its private rainforest reserve, such as an early morning bird-watching tour, a waterfall tour, and a traditional medicine tour where guides explain how the local plants and wildlife have been used for medicinal purposes for centuries, thanks to their healing properties.
