Le Quartier Francais

Winelands, South Africa

Le Quartier Français is a charming Cape Provençal property situated in the picturesque village of Franschhoek. It has been a member of Relais & Chateaux since 2000, a testament to its aesthetics and high quality of service.

The original buildings at Le Quartier Français were labourers’ cottages, and when Susan Huxter bought the property in 1989, it was already a popular restaurant. There is accommodation to suit all tastes, from the sumptuous yet traditional Auberge and Grande rooms, to the magnificence of the Four Quarters suites. The Petite Garden and Auberge suites offer something in between, and with a second floor and private plunge pool, the Auberge suites are ideal for accommodating families of up to four.

Walk out though the shady gardens and admire the historic architecture of the houses and public buildings. Browse the galleries, book and antique shops, and perhaps pop in to the micro brewery at Heritage Square. Eating and drinking in Franschhoek’s world class restaurants should be high on your list: there’s a reason they call it South Africa’s gourmet capital.
