Mchenja Bushcamp is tucked away in a shady ebony grove on the riverbank with spectacular views of South Luangwa. The camp offers a selection of five tented chalets that are comfortable and tastefully decorated, with open bathrooms and wide canvas windows. The lounge area is stylish and features plush sofas which are perfectly situated by the library and well stocked bar for an afternoon of reading, drink in hand. Mchenja also has a small plunge pool for a refreshing dip after you get back from a day on safari.
Guests can arrange a guided tour by foot or by jeep with expert guides who can point out interesting wildlife and talk about the Luangwa’s history. Start the day with a riverside breakfast, or, if you’re planning to rise later, a brunch buffet at around 11.30. After a siesta, sit down for a cup of tea and a slice of delicious homemade cake. Finish the day off with a sunset cocktail and nibbles, a game drive and dinner in front of the Luangwa.
