Nsolo Bush Camp is one of the South Luangwa's more remote luxury safari camps. Situated in a bend in the seasonal Luwi, beneath a grove of trees, it’s in an idyllic spot where animals come to drink and interact at the watering hole. Accommodation is in four rustic yet comfortable thatched chalets, each set on wooden decks under the shade of the trees, with plush beds, stylish furnishings, outside en suite bathrooms and private verandas out front.
The appeal of Nsolo’s star bed is that it is you who picks the location: you can stay as close or far from camp as you like; relive the experience of South Luangwa’s pioneering explorers in the early 20th century. In the mid afternoon you’ll set out with a guide to find the best location, and will sleep on a bed roll with only a mosquito net above you.
There are few African experiences more exciting than heading out on a walk early in the morning, having heard lions calling through the night, finding fresh tracks and following them up. This is big game viewing on foot and at its best. Pair this with the excitement of the star bed: making camp, cooking with the rangers, storytelling around the campfire, and unrivalled astronomy.
