The Taj Mahal Palace Mumbai

Western India

When the Taj Mahal Palace Mumbai was built a hundred years ago, it was the most impressive and opulent hotel that India had ever seen. It still makes quite an impression today.

The hotel’s location is second to none: it’s right on the waterfront, next to the Gateway of India. Its vast facade is topped with three terracotta domes, which can be seen from far out in the harbour.

The 550 rooms and suites are split between the heritage palace and the modern tower wing; if you want character, definitely opt for the former.

The Luxury Grande Rooms overlook the city; the Grand Luxury Suites look out to sea. These sumptuous spaces have an old world charm, antique furniture, and hand knotted Persian carpets on the floors. The bath comes with a menu of bath salts, the marble is Italian, and you’ll receive complimentary afternoon tea and cocktails to further enhance your stay.

Whilst you’re staying at the hotel, be sure to take a tour of the building to fully appreciate its architecture and history. The hotel has its own art gallery, spa, and salon, plus a wide selection of superb dining options.
