If you’re fascinated by the history of the Boer War and plan to visit the battlefields of Spioenkop and Ladysmith, make Three Tree Hill Lodge your base.
Guests at Three Tree Hill Lodge are accommodated in six en suite cottages, one of which, the Kiplings Family Cottage, can accommodate 2 adults and 4 children. The cottages are constructed mostly of wood, in keeping with the atmosphere of the 19th century, but with modern amenities. Each bathroom has a shower and bath, and also magnificent views of Spioenkop.
Owners Simon and Cheryl Blackburn live on the property and offer an extremely personal and homely touch to your stay. Meals and afternoon tea offer delicious, varied, and elegant fare. Weather permitting these are served on the cool, wide verandas of the main lodge. A viewing deck, swimming pool, and a library complete the lodge’s offering.
Visit the battlefields with Andrew Arlington and his fellow guides, whose knowledge of the Boer War is unrivalled. Walks are available on the farm, which has magnificent views of the central and northern Drakensberg. Other activities include visiting nearby museums and memorials, hiking, mountain biking, and horse riding.
