Tortuguero translates as “land of the turtles”, and you will more than likely spot the odd turtle during your stay, depending on whether you choose to visit during the turtle nesting season. Either way, this is a serene and beautiful part of Costa Rica, and Tortuga Lodge will make you feel incredibly welcome.
The lodge has 27 rooms, including rooms with balconies and even a penthouse suite. All of the rooms have excellent views of the river. There are no TVs or sophisticated sound systems; here, technology is replaced with the sounds of the enveloping tropical rainforest. Take this time to switch off and enjoy the peacefulness of nature.
The restaurant is authentic and relaxed, featuring traditional Costa Rican food with a contemporary twist. The bar serves Caribbean-themed cocktails, including a brilliant pina colada.
Set off on an early-morning walk through the lodge’s extensive gardens, with an expert wildlife and nature guide. These gardens are grand and sprawling, mimicking the traditional banana plantations that littered the Caribbean coast.
