Vamizi Island

Mozambique

The 32 islands of the Quirimbas Archipelago are a rich melting pot of Africa, Arabian and Indian cultures, influenced by the traders who sailed here. It’s an incredibly important marine reserve, too, much of which is protected within the Quirimbas National Park. Dive on the coral reef, watch the pods of dolphin and whale, and learn the bloodthirsty tales of piracy and the slave trade as you explore the old fort on Ibo Island.

Vamizi Island is blessed with a tropical climate and some of the loveliest beaches you’ll ever see. The powder-soft sand is reminiscent of that in the Maldives, and as the beaches are wild and quite deserted, you can walk for an hour or more without seeing another person.

&Beyond has two properties on the island, Valmizi Suluwilo and Valmizi Papilio. The former is an exotic beach retreat inspired by the islands’ Arabian heritage; the latter is airy and has a more rustic beach house theme.

Whichever lodge you choose, you’ll have a quiet stay as the number of rooms is very limited. The interiors are beautifully designed and carefully executed; everything has its place and is perfectly in keeping with its respective style.
