Wildlife at Your Window

There’s Hardly a Need to Leave Camp with our Spectacular Wildlife Centric Properties

With Journeysmiths’, the wild is at your window, meaning you can throw away your alarm clock. It’s the birds who will decide when you should rise and shine, and they’ll tell you in no uncertain terms! Wandering down for breakfast, you might well have to pause if there is an elephant or kudu on the path, and even once you’ve sat down with your morning coffee, there’s a risk that a passing giraffe might stop by and steal your croissant.

The lodges and camps with the closest wildlife encounters are usually on private concessions or reserves which have a high concentration of birds and game. The wildlife has become accustomed to the presence of a small number of guests, so animals will go about their day completely unconcerned that you are there.

Often, these properties have been situated by a watering hole so the wildlife at your window is guaranteed. Elsewhere, such as at the Polar Bear Cabins, they’re situated at a strategic crossing point so you can sit just metres away from the polar bear, behind the protective glass.

If there’s one hotel your kids have heard of in Africa, it is probably Giraffe Manor. One of Nairobi’s most iconic buildings, it has its own resident population of giraffe who know no bounds of personal space, and are famous for sticking their heads through the window at breakfast time.

Sujan Jawai

Sujan Jawai - a Relais & Chateaux property in a leopard rich wilderness - takes luxury to a whole other level. An Indian maharaja would be fortunate to call this tented camp home. It’s a property completely in balance with its ecosystem, with a light, sustainable environmental footprint.
