Family Calendar

Holidays are for life, not just for summer

Who doesn’t have a twinge of nostalgia for childhood summertime holidays on the coast. You know, chucking it down day-after-day, boulders rather than sand, and when the sun finally appeared it was shoulder to suncream-smeared shoulder on the beach. No? Us neither.

Fortunately, you can leave those memories behind as we’ve got plenty of family-friendly adventures for the whole year round.

CHRISTMAS
Galapagos
At Christmastime, Galapagos breezes are gentle, making for calm sailing between the islands. The water is warm (this is the height of their summer, after all), so you can dive in from the deck of your boat and watch the fish below as you snorkel.
CHRISTMAS
Antarctica
For a very different family Christmas, you can head all the way south for an Antarctic adventure, sailing from Argentina. At this time of year the sun scarcely sets, and watching the antics of the vast numbers of penguin makes for a very different festive experience from watching ‘Happy Feet’ on telly with the kids.
CHRISTMAS
South Africa
Of course, ice is not for everyone. Part of the appeal of getting away at Christmas can be the prospect of warmth. South Africa’s Cape is an excellent choice for this reason. Cape Town itself is an exciting urban destination, and you’re within easy reach of both the Kwandwe big game reserve and the vineyards and beaches of the Garden Route.

EASTER
Bhutan
At Easter, explore Bhutan, the Himalayan kingdom known as the Land of the Thunder Dragon. At a private location in the Paro Valley, we'll set up your very own camp, complete with a delicious dinner as the sun sets behind the Himalayas .

Then get an impression of how the Bhutanese live by visiting a school. They may even let you try their colourful local clothing.
EASTER
Botswana
This is also a great time of year to travel in Botswana, moving between the sands of the Kalahari Desert and the watery beauty of the Okavango Delta. The camps here are truly exclusive, and there are plenty of activities available, from wildlife tracking on foot, to canoeing along the seasonal waterways.
EASTER
Costa Rica
We also love Costa Rica, the world’s leading destination for eco tourism. The weather at Easter is superb for watching wildlife in the rainforest, as well as for a few days on the coast if you fancy combining it with a beach break.

SUMMER
East Africa
In summer, East Africa has its dry season so it’s the ideal time to combine a safari and a few days on the beach. Consider game viewing in the northern Serengeti and Masai Mara during the Great Migration, before island hopping off the coast of Tanzania.
SUMMER
Brazil
Brazil is a fabulous family destination at any time of year. The Brazilians are family-oriented, and they certainly know how to have a good time. July and August are good months to spot jaguar in the Pantanal from a private villa at Caiman Ecological Refuge, and you can then head over to Rio, one of the most vibrant cities in the Americas.
SUMMER
Zambia
For an even more adventurous summer, you could visit Zambia. It’s winter here, and cooler, but the rivers are still full from the rains. This is perfect for a Zambezi canoe adventure from Chongwe River House, and for watching the elephant herds splashing around at Luangwa Safari House.
