Why Kibale?
Chimpanzee aren’t the only primates you can expect to find in Kibale. Keep your eyes open for Ugandan red colobus, black and white colobus, blue monkey and L’Hoest monkey as well. The moist, tropical forests of Kibale create an exceptionally rich ecosystem of more than 200 species of plants, including wild coffee.
While primates are the star of the show here in Kibale, you can also find giant forest hogs, elephants and various antelope. Due to prolific bird life around the park, Makerere University built a biological field station for research and monitoring the likes of endemic black-earned ground thrush, olive long-tailed cuckoo and western tinkerbird. You can spot additional birds during guided nature walks in the adjacent Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary.
