Location
Set amidst the cloud forest of the Tilaran mountains of the Costa Rican north west highlands, Hotel Senda is a 2 ½ hr drive from San José. The nearest settlement is Santa Elena, the gateway to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve
Accommodation
Senda Monteverde is a relatively small and personal eco-lodge village with just 24 rooms and suites dispersed in bungalow dwellings around charming grounds. You will find that your accommodation is contemporary and stylish with warm colours, plenty of wood and large windows for observing the flora and fauna of your environment. Venture out onto your private terrace and you may find coatis and agoutis wandering by. We would recommend that you request a suite with a west-facing terrace for the full experience of the amazing sunsets, though none of the terraces will disappoint you: all accommodation at Hotel Senda is positioned to maximise your experience of the natural beauty of the place.
Scenic stone pathways lead you through the grounds to the El Sapo Restaurant and Bar, complete with its wonderful views looking over the highlands from the top of the plateau.The dining experience here has sustainability at its heart; the farm-to-table concept means that ingredients are locally sourced and often from the lodge’s own market garden. We love the fact that they make all dressings and sauces from scratch from their own ingredients on a daily basis.
Hotel Senda is committed to improving the environment of its own land and the surrounding cloud forest. In the gardens themselves, more than 5,000 extra native plants have been established. There is also a strong partnership with the neighbouring Aguti Wildlife Reserve, and staff members volunteer their time to be involved in the community initiative known as Monteverde Forest Clean Up.

Experiences
- The dripping, misty and majestic cloud forest is best experienced from the famous suspension bridges of Selvatura. You will be up close and person with the birds and the epiphytes.
- A day trip to learn and experience the whole history and process of growing and refining coffee is a Costa Rican opportunity not to be missed.
- You are on the doorstep of the neighbouring Aguti Wildlife Reserve. A short walk across a suspension bridge will put you amongst the giants of old-growth forest. Stand amongst the huge buttress roots of towering trees. Try and spot a sloth.
- The amazing range of beautiful frogs is best seen on a guided night walk though the forest.
- A quiet morning stroll will give you the best chance of seeing the amazing bird life of the cloud forest. Many birdwatchers come to see the iridescent Quetzal, but that is just the start of the avian adventure.

Conservation
In the process of reviving the hotel, Senda Monteverde have planted over 5,500 native plants and trees across the grounds so far, bringing life back to the land. They plan on expanding this project and planting many more in process!

Staff members at Senda volunteer their time to help clean up the natural areas of the town that need a little extra love. Future projects include the development of a new environmental education campaign in Monteverde, designed to tackle waste management issues at the source.

Hiring locally is the backbone of Senda’s commitment to the Monteverde Community. Staff is exclusively Costa Rican, with the majority of the team born and raised within walking distance of the hotel.
