Why Lake Titicaca?
Lake Titicaca links Peru and Bolivia. Many of its islands on the Peruvian side are man-made and inhabited by the indigenous Uru people, considered by many to be the ancestral owners of the lake. The town of Puno is a great point from which to visit the islands of the Uru. Amantani is another noteworthy island in Lake Titicaca where it’s possible to stay with a local Quechua family. There’s also Taquile, a former Spanish prison colony that is today beloved for its original textile art.
Your time on Lake Titicaca can easily include a day or two in the historic city of La Paz in neighbouring Bolivia. Wander the cobblestone streets and browse boutique shops with a spectacular view over the lake.
